What can be automated in a smart home - lights, fans, AC, TV, curtains and locks?

Everything in the home that draws power: lights (with dimming and colour tuning), fans (with speed control), ACs, TVs, motorised curtains and blinds, and smart door locks - we summarise the core as FLAT (Fans, Lights, ACs, TVs), plus curtains and locks. We also offer motion and presence sensors, under-bed lighting, aroma diffusers and starlight projectors. We are a smart home company, not a lighting or fabric company: you choose your own lights and curtain fabric from any vendor (we can recommend some); a smart driver is fitted inside each light (compatible with ~90-95% of lights in the Indian market) and supply only the curtain motor and track.

How do your keypads compare to competitors' keypads on scene capability?

Our six-button smart keypad supports up to 18 programmable actions through single-tap, double-tap, and long-press gestures. This allows homeowners to control more scenes and automations from a single keypad, reducing wall clutter while providing quick access to everyday functions such as Movie Time, Good Night, Entertain, and Away modes. The result is a cleaner interface, greater flexibility, and a more intuitive user experience.

Can you automate existing ACs, fans, lights and curtains without replacing them?

Yes. In most cases, we can automate your existing appliances without requiring replacement. Existing fans can be upgraded with smart speed control, ACs can be integrated through smart controllers, and most modern lights can be converted into dimmable and tunable smart lighting. This makes it possible to enjoy a modern smart home experience while retaining much of your existing investment.

How does a smart door lock work, and what are its unlocking methods?

Our smart door locks support multiple access methods, including facial recognition, fingerprint, PIN code, NFC card, mobile app, and physical key backup. Beyond security, the lock can trigger personalised arrival scenes. For example, recognising your face can automatically turn on lights, adjust the AC, and open curtains before you enter. The lock also includes remote access, visitor management, entry logs, and privacy controls, allowing you to monitor and manage access from anywhere. In the event of a power or battery issue, emergency backup options ensure uninterrupted access.

Does home automation work with Alexa, Google Home and Apple Home?

We support all three major platforms - Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Apple Home - so use whichever speaker you prefer; a single command like 'Alexa, movie time' runs your full preset scene, and you can even set fan speed by voice ('set fan speed to 4'). A smart speaker is optional - it's just one of three control methods alongside keypads and the app. The one caveat: voice assistants are cloud-based, so voice commands need internet; without internet every automation still works through the physical keypads

ABOUT US

Where are your products manufactured?

We design and manufacture our own products. Our light drivers are produced at our BIS-certified plant in India to address Indian power conditions and specification. A range of our other products are developed in partnership with manufacturers from across the world.

Who is AHA Smart Homes and what's your track record?

We're an Indian company, about five to six years old as a home automation brand backed by Aurus Group, a 25 to 30 year IT software company that built the ticketing infrastructure for PVR INOX and the complete technology stack for Vijay Sales. This isn't a startup; it's a division of an established tech company. In that time we've completed over 1,200 homes in Mumbai and won the Best Home Automation Award three consecutive years running.

Can the system be expanded in the future with new products?

Yes, the system is future-ready. New products like motorised curtains, aroma diffusers, starlight projectors and additional sensors simply connect to the existing local mesh network. Because we use ZigBee, a global open standard, new compatible products from any manufacturer can be added over time. Future expansions are plug-and-play, no rewiring, no new hubs if the existing ones cover the area.

What is the component failure rate?

Our component failure rate is less than 0.5%, meaning out of approximately 200 components installed, perhaps one may require attention within the warranty period. The industry average is around 2%. We achieve this through our own manufacturing and quality control. Most issues that do arise, approximately 95%, are resolved remotely in under 30 minutes via a phone or WhatsApp call without any on-site visit.

What is the warranty and long-term viability of the system if AHA goes out of business?

We understand this concern, home automation is a 10 to 15 year decision. Here's why you're protected: we use ZigBee, an open international standard developed by Apple, Google, Amazon, and 300+ other companies. If AHA ever faced difficulties, any other ZigBee-compatible automation company could reprogram and service your system. Your hardware investment doesn't become obsolete. Additionally, our parent company is a 25-year-old IT firm that manages ticketing infrastructure for PVR INOX and the complete tech stack for Vijay Sales, so this isn't a startup operating from a garage.

HOME AUTOMATION

How much does home automation cost in Mumbai per room and for a full 2 BHK or 3 BHK?

Customers spend between 3-5 lakhs for a typical 3bhk apartment in mumbai Pricing is component-driven, you only pay for what you automate. This covers all of the basics light fan ac tv and curtains.

Does home automation work without internet or Wi-Fi?

Yes. Your smart home continues to operate normally even if the internet goes down. AHA uses dedicated smart hubs that create a secure local network for your automation system. Lights, fans, curtains, ACs, locks, and keypads continue to respond instantly without relying on the internet. Internet is only required for remote access features such as controlling your home while away, viewing cameras, unlocking doors remotely, or using voice assistants like Alexa, Google Home, and Apple Home. There are no SIM cards, subscriptions, or monthly fees. Your app access is included for life.

Is home automation wireless, and does it require rewiring or breaking walls?

The system is completely wireless - no extensive rewiring and no wall-breaking. A driver sits inside each existing light fitting, an IR sensor handles AC and TV per room, and our keypads replace your existing switch plates using the existing power wiring. The ideal time to involve us is the electrical phase (before switchboards are fixed and the false ceiling is closed) so we can advise on keypad/hub placement . Hardware installation takes 1-3 days depending on scope, plus a half- to full-day for programming. Sequencing on a new home: drivers after the false ceiling, keypads after the first coat of paint, curtain tracks last on a dust-free site.

What is ZigBee, and how is it different from Wi-Fi for home automation?

We use ZigBee plus Matter, a wireless standard co-developed by Apple, Amazon, Google and 300+ companies specifically for home automation (we also support Bluetooth ZigMesh for some devices). It runs on the 2.4 GHz band like Wi-Fi but is a completely separate, dedicated local network - it doesn't use your internet bandwidth, doesn't slow your router, and keeps working if the internet goes down.

What's the difference between a smart home and home automation?

A smart home typically consists of individual smart devices that are controlled separately through different apps. Home automation brings everything together on a single platform, allowing devices to work as one coordinated system. For example, a single 'Movie Time ' command can dim the lights, close the curtains, switch on the TV, and adjust the AC. Likewise, your smart door lock can recognise your arrival and automatically prepare the home to your preferred settings. The difference is simple: smart devices give you control, while home automation creates experiences.

EXPERIENCES

Can I automate one room at a time and add more rooms later?

Yes. Many customers start with a single room, often the living room or master bedroom, and expand over time. Each addition integrates seamlessly into your existing system with no rework required.

How does a single button trigger multiple actions (scenes)?

Scenes are pre-configured sequences stored on your hub. When you press a keypad button or activate a scene in the app, the hub sends simultaneous commands to all included devices, dimming lights, adjusting AC, closing curtains, and more in one instant.

What are all the ways to control the system?

You can control your AHA smart home through wall keypads, the mobile app, voice assistants (Alexa, Google, Siri), scheduled automations, and sensor-based triggers like motion and presence detection.

Can I create custom scenes for different times of day or occasions?

Yes. Our experience designers work with you to create custom scenes for mornings, evenings, movie nights, parties, and more. Scenes can also be scheduled to activate automatically at specific times or triggered by sensors.

What is the under-bed motion sensor and why do customers love it?

The under-bed motion sensor detects when you step out of bed at night and triggers soft pathway lighting, bright enough to navigate safely, dim enough not to wake your partner. It's one of our most loved experiences, especially for families with children.

INSTALLATION

How long does installation take?

Installation timelines vary by home size and scope. A single room can typically be completed in a day, while a full apartment may take 3 to 5 days. Our team coordinates with your electrician and contractor to minimize disruption.

What happens if the smart lock battery dies?

AHA smart locks provide low-battery alerts well in advance via the app. They also include a mechanical key backup and USB emergency power port, so you're never locked out even if the battery runs out unexpectedly.

How does your system compare to wired DALI automation?

AHA's wireless system delivers comparable reliability and scene capability without the cost and complexity of wired DALI infrastructure. It's ideal for both retrofit and new construction, with faster installation and easier future expansion.

Will home automation reduce my electricity bills?

Smart automation can reduce energy consumption through occupancy-based lighting, scheduled AC control, and automatic shut-off when rooms are empty. While savings vary, most customers notice improved efficiency from eliminating wasted energy.

What communication protocol does the system use, and is it the same as Wi-Fi?

AHA primarily uses ZigBee 3.0 for device communication, which is separate from your Wi-Fi network. Your hub connects to Wi-Fi for remote access and voice control, while devices communicate locally over the dedicated ZigBee mesh.

HOW TO GET STARTED

At what stage of construction or renovation should I involve AHA?

Ideally, involve AHA during the design or early construction phase so we can plan switchboard layouts and wiring with your architect. For retrofits, we can work at any stage, even in fully furnished homes.

Can you do a virtual or video demo if I can't visit in person?

Yes. We offer virtual demos where our team walks you through the app, keypads, and live scenes via video call. It's a great way to experience AHA before visiting our experience centre in person.

Can someone from your team visit my home first instead of me visiting the experience centre?

Absolutely. For larger projects or clients who prefer it, our consultants can visit your home to assess the space, understand your requirements, and recommend the right solution before any commitment.

Is it necessary for me to see a demo?

While not mandatory, we highly recommend experiencing a live demo. Seeing scenes like Grand Welcome, Midnight Walk, and Cleaning Mode in action helps you understand what's possible and make informed decisions for your home.

What details do i have to share to get a quote?

To provide an accurate quote, we need your floor plan (or room dimensions), the number of rooms to automate, your preferred experiences, and whether it's a new build or retrofit. Our team will guide you through the details during a consultation.
