Goodbye routines, or exit routines, are designed to bring a space to a close when you leave it. They're one of the simplest, and most enjoyable, use cases of whole-home automation, because they take a small, everyday action and make it completely effortless.
Think about how many times you leave a room in a day. You walk out of the bedroom, leave the living room, step out of the kitchen or head out of the home. Each time, there are things to switch off, adjust or close. With automation, you don't need to remember any of them.
Exit routines are designed room by room, based on how you use each space. A button by the bedroom door can turn off the lights, switch off the air conditioning and close the curtains as you leave. The same principle applies to the living room, kitchen, study or any other space.
Exit routines don't always need a button, either. Presence sensors can trigger them automatically: if a room detects no motion for a defined period, five minutes for example, it recognises that the space has been left and begins its shutdown routine. Lights turn off, HVAC adjusts and other devices switch off without anyone having to remember to do it.
And when you're leaving the home, one button by the entrance takes care of everything at once, shutting down lights across the home, turning off HVAC, closing curtains and switching off connected appliances, leaving the entire home ready for your absence.
The beauty is in the simplicity: one action, or sometimes no action at all, replaces a series of small decisions. The home simply understands when a space has been left and takes care of the rest, the same way it does for every other automated moment in the house.
