AHA smart home experience centre interior

The AHA Design Guide

How AHA works
with designers.

We work alongside architects, interior designers and developers on every project we automate, from the first electrical plan to final handover.

Our role is to be the partner your team hands the technology to. Not another vendor to coordinate, chase and translate for the client.

Here is what that looks like at each stage of a project.

Stage 01

We help you pitch it

Most homeowners know home automation through a few familiar ideas: automated lights, curtains, voice control. The possibilities go much further, and the number of options can overwhelm a client quickly.

Across 1,200+ homes we have found a simpler way in. Start with how people live, not with the technology.

Instead of a list of devices, we frame automation around everyday moments. Waking up. Leaving home. Watching a movie. Going to bed. Caring for an elderly parent. Running a house with pets. The conversation becomes about the experience the technology creates, not the technology itself.

We work with you to shape that story for your client, build the presentation material, answer technical questions on system, service and warranty, and handle objections as they come up.

What this means for you: you walk into the pitch with the technology conversation already prepared.

Stage 02

Your client experiences it before they commit

Home automation is experiential. Much like buying a car, it is difficult to understand the value of it until you have spent time with it.

We invite your clients to our experience centres, where a consultant walks them through a fully functioning smart home. The spaces are built to feel like real homes, so clients can interact with the systems, explore what is possible and picture the same experiences in their own space.

What this means for you: you do not have to explain everything yourself. We take ownership of the technology conversation while keeping you at the centre of the client relationship.

Stage 03

We plan the system with your team, not around it

Building a home is a team sport. Architects, interior designers, electricians, contractors, AV teams and automation specialists all need to work from the same plan.

We work closely with your team to develop both the electrical plan and the home automation plan. That automation plan becomes the single source of truth for device selection, placement, wiring, BOQs and costing, and a communication tool between everyone on the project.

What this means for you: less ambiguity, fewer misunderstandings and less rework on site. The smart home is designed into the project from the beginning rather than added once the electrical work is already underway.

Stage 04

We hold the standard on site

AHA systems are built to serve a home for the long term, which makes the details during construction matter.

Our teams visit site, review wiring and run quality checks throughout the build. Lighting and other connected products are audited and tested to confirm they work correctly with the automation system. We coordinate directly with electricians and contractors so the installation follows the planned design and meets our standards.

What this means for you: problems get identified before they become expensive problems for you or your client.

Stage 05

We stay involved after handover

A smart home is not finished on the day it is handed over. Every family has different routines, preferences and needs, and most of these only become clear once people start living in the home.

After installation, our team works with the family to understand how they use the system and personalises it around their routines. As life changes, children grow up, families expand and requirements shift, we remain available to refine the system over time.

What this means for you: the project keeps reflecting well on you long after you have moved on to the next one.

Why we work this way

Home automation is usually treated as a collection of devices supplied and installed by multiple vendors, with the homeowner left to figure out how everything works together. More often than not, the designer ends up absorbing that coordination.

We believe it should work differently. A smart home should respect the design of the space, fit naturally into the way the family lives, and be professionally planned, configured, commissioned and supported by one accountable team, with the physical wiring done by the client’s own electrician.

From the first conversation to technical planning, site execution and personalisation after move-in, AHA takes responsibility for the entire experience.

Our focus is not on adding more technology to a home. It is on making the home work better, without adding complexity for the designer or the homeowner.

The AHA partner programme

AHA runs a partner and referral programme for architects, interior designers and developers, with preferred pricing on the projects you bring to us. Ask us for the current terms when we talk.

“Managing different vendors during construction can get complicated, but AHA made it feel simple. Their coordination with our electrician and contractor was seamless, and everything was delivered exactly as planned. It gave us a lot of confidence throughout the build.”

Come for a trade visit

Our Santacruz West experience centre is laid out as a sample flat rather than a product wall, so you can see how drivers, keypads and curtain tracks sit inside finished interiors before you specify anything. Come on your own first, or bring a client. Open 11am to 7pm, closed on Tuesdays: walk in, or book ahead.

Working together

Whether you are scoping a new project or trying to solve automation on one already underway, we can come in at any stage. The earlier we are involved, the more we can design in rather than work around.
